Solving arithmetical problems? No problem!
Problem solving in 5-8, 8-10 and 10-12 cycles. Education research (school network of FWB), 2000-2007.
Leading children to develop efficient problem solving strategies is far to be easy for the teacher who has very few tools to help him in that task. These documents, intended for 5-8, 8-10 and 10-12 cycles, supply teachers with a range of activities to teach students to build and use tools helping them to solve various arithmetical problems. These activities were designed and tested by two working groups made up of teachers, inspectors, project officers and researchers.
Every document consists of four parts which tackles each some phases of the strategy: problem representation, solving in itself, communication of the solution and verification. In each activity, one of the phases is emphasized.
